About Me
Selah Chan is a Canadian born, Hong Kong raised filmmaker and writer passionate about storytelling and activism. She graduated from from Sarah Lawrence College in the Spring of 2023, with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree, concentrating in film and media studies.
During her time in college, she worked as a director, producer, screenwriter and director of photography for numerous student short films and projects. She worked as a Teacher’s Assistant for a political documentary filmmaking class, and served in other roles such as co-chair for Asian American Culture Club and Editor-In-Chief of Apple Box Review, a film literary publication.
Selah’s passion for activism and social justice began in high school when she co-founded the organisation, Action for Refugees (AFR). Through this community, she collaborated with non-profit organisations and charities, hosting events and festivals to raise funds towards local displaced families within Hong Kong.
In addition to filmmaking, writing and activism, Selah has worked in music and art, teaching piano, music theory and leading art workshops in paintings and craft-making. Selah believes that art and writing serve to make an impactful message, and strives to integrate elements of transformative justice and equity in not simply her art, but in the day-to-day.
Selah’s ultimate goal within her work is to connect with human beings and create spaces/pieces which foster these intimate relationships.
